Privacy Policy
Effective October 3, 2026
The Little Stream (thelittlestream.org) is a personal, noncommercial index of talks by leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is not affiliated with the Church. This page explains what information the site handles and why. In short: you can use the whole site without an account, there are no ads or tracking cookies, the only analytics are Cloudflare’s cookieless page counts, and if you choose to sign in we keep only what is needed to sync your listening progress.
If you do not sign in
The site stores nothing about you on its servers. Your browser keeps a few things in its own local storage on your device so the site works the way you left it: which talk you were playing and where, playback speed, your oldest/newest preference for each leader, and which talks you have listened to or started. This data never leaves your device unless you sign in, and you can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
If you sign in with Google
Signing in is optional and only used to keep your listening progress in sync across your devices.
- What we receive from Google: your Google account ID (a number that identifies your account), your name, and your email address. We do not receive your password, contacts, or any other Google data, and we do not ask for access to your Google account.
- What we store: that account ID, name, and email; for each talk you have played, your position in it, its length, whether you finished it, and when you last updated it; and sign-in sessions. A session is a random token kept in a secure, HttpOnly cookie on your device; we store only a one-way hash of it. Sessions expire after 180 days.
- How we use it: only to show your progress and “listened” marks on the devices where you sign in. We do not use it for advertising, profiling, or anything else, and we never sell, rent, or share it.
- Where it is kept: in a database run on Cloudflare’s infrastructure (Cloudflare D1), which processes it on our behalf.
Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Deleting your information
Signed in, open the account menu and choose Delete my account and progress. This immediately and permanently removes your account ID, name, email, sessions, and saved progress from our database. (Progress saved in your own browser stays until you clear it.) Signing out ends the session on that device. You can also ask us to delete your data by email (below). You may remove the site’s access in your Google Account settings as well, under third-party connections.
Other services your browser connects to
This site never copies or relays audio or most portraits. Your browser loads them directly from their original owners, who see the request (including your IP address) under their own privacy policies:
- Audio streams from the original hosts: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (churchofjesuschrist.org and related domains), BYU Speeches, BYU–Idaho, and BYU–Hawaii.
- Some portraits load from churchofjesuschrist.org, history.churchofjesuschrist.org, newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org, and speeches.byu.edu.
- Google Sign-In (accounts.google.com) loads only when you open the sign-in panel. Google handles sign-in under the Google Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare hosts the site. Like any web host, it processes technical request data (such as IP addresses) to deliver pages and protect against abuse.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics (static.cloudflareinsights.com) counts page views and how fast pages load, so we can see which parts of the site are used. It sets no cookies and does not follow individual visitors across sites. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Links to talk pages take you to those sites, which have their own policies.
Children
The site can be used without an account by anyone. Accounts are not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. We will not start using your information in a new way without asking you first.
